I've made a stamping community for Tove Janssons Moomin books; [info]moomin_stamp
Feel free to check it out and post an application :) It's not necessary that you have read the books, because I've made character bios to all of the characters.

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a children's book, but I can't remember the title. It features beautiful drawings and was probably aimed for 4 year olds, or perhaps a bit younger. I do remember the plot, but not any character names.

A town is prided on their beautiful horses, but there's one pony who is not beautiful, who nobody loves. They talk a lot about the vain horses. Eventually, there's some sort of disaster, and children are stuck in some sort of danger (I think it was a flood?) and only the pony can get the children out of danger, while the vain horses just watch. Eventually the pony finds a loving family.

If anyone could tell me the title, I would absolutely love it. Thank you so much!!!

In my Flickr perusals, I came across some scans from a Spanish children's book about the Seven Deadly Sins. If anyone knows the origins, do tell! I found them entertaining.

More scans, and links to Flickr set HERE

am reading The Dog Who Wouldn't Be, by Farley Mowat, to my 12 year old son. (we read to each other). I would like to recommend the book, which isn't really a 'children's' book, but more of a young adult book.  I would advise keeping a dictionary handy while reading, as there are many wonderful but less than common words in used in the telling of the stories. The words do not diminish from the pure entertainment of reading about the exploits of Farley Mowat as a boy growing up in the dust bowl of the Canadian plains during the depression, and his bizarre and hilarious dog named Mutt.
We have not yet finished the book, but it's very funny and enjoyable. We have also read Owls in the Family, also by Farley Mowat, which was equally as enjoyable.

Lately I've been thinking about the Bobbsey Twins books. Remember those?
I was thinking about ways to get kids into reading young, and I was remembering staring at the covers of my sister's books, thinking how exciting they looked, and wishing like hell I could read. Then I realized that the books I specifically remember thinking this about was the Bobbsey Twins books. And that led to me remembering how much I loved them. Like, really really adored them.
They're among the few books I haven't reread as an adult because, I mean, they're crap, right? Total crap. Nancy Drew books were actually pretty good (because the ghost writer they landed on was fantastic) but the Bobbsey Twin books were just crap.
Only I'm wondering if I should try to get my hands on some and check them out. Because my memories of them are delightful.
(There are some old ones free on Gutenberg, etc., but all the older Bobbsey twin books were rewritten in the 60s--and it's pretty much anonymous that they were rewritten better--and those are the ones I'm remembering. The hardback ones with no dust jacket, just the picture covers and the lavender spine and backs)

Anyone else have good memories of these books? Or am I on the crack?

Hello all...I've been lurking and I liked what I have seen.  I have a question that maybe someone can help.  I'm currently a grad student in the LIS program.  My professor wants us to write a small review on a poor quality book.  Can someone suggest any....I am having a hard time finding one.

Thanx a bnuch
